Aberdeen, ABD at a Glance
Known as the Granite City, Aberdeen's stately, stone buildings sparkle after
one of the city's frequent rainfalls, making it appear to melt into the sea.
Also known for its many gardens and public spaces, during the summer the city
blooms with two million roses, eleven million daffodils and three million crocuses.
It was a favourite city for Robert the Bruce, who was protected by its citizens
that would eventually help him win the Battle of Barra.
Purchased by the British crown in 1852, Balmoral
Castle, located outside of the city, is the Royal Family's home in the north.
The fortified St.
Machar's Cathedral has an impressive heraldic ceiling featuring 48 coats
of arms, and the Gordon
Highlanders Museum celebrates the 200-year-old legendary regiment of kilted
soldiers from Aberdeen who bravely fought around the globe. For the entire family,
Codona's Amusement Park features the massive Grampian Eye, and is close to the
beautifully maintained beach, and the fanciful gardens of Storybook
Glen are populated with characters recognisable from nursery rhymes and
fairytales.
